A dramatic fact that in the last 24 hours two women have been murdered in Serbia in intimate partner violence is the latest alarm for all competent services and authorities to undertake urgent measures and improve the system of protection from violence against women, the Commissioner for Protection of Equality, Ms Brankica Janković warns.
Both of these tragedies, as well as all the cases since the beginning of the year, indicate that the violence against women one of the gravest problems in our society. Therefore, combating violence against women must be energetic and unambiguous, implying consensus of the entire society in two directions: the efficient protection which will prevent tragic outcomes like these ones and eradication of a patriarchal value system in which women should keep quiet and suffer in silence if they want to stay alive, the Commissioner Janković infers.
