The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality gives full contribution to further building a society based on respect for human rights, said the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Janković at the meeting with the Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret during his visit to the Institution of the Commissioner.
Discussing the importance of independent bodies in strengthening democratic capacities and institutions, the Commissioner stressed the importance of staying on the European path, noting that Serbian society shares the ideas and core values that led to the EU’s founding – the desire for peace, stability, economic prosperity, and unity of difference.
The meeting tackled the achieved standards in the field of human rights protection, the importance of equality and the need for their further improvement.
The Head of the EU Delegation gave full support to the further work of the Commissioner and emphasized the key contribution and role of the independent institutions, including the Commissioner for Protection of Equality in the efforts to improve the position of marginalized and socially vulnerable groups, but also in the support of freedom of expression and culture of dialogue.
