MEETING OF THE COMMISSIONER AND THE OSCE SECRETARY GENERAL

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, met with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Helga Schmid, with whom she discussed the importance of equality as the foundation of any democratic society. Special mention was made of gender equality in the field of security with an emphasis on the human dimension and the role of women in the current health situation caused by the pandemic.

Janković pointed out the importance of OSCE support and emphasized the institution’s activities in the field of protection and promotion of equality, including regional co-operation of Southeast European equality bodies, numerous trainings and seminars with police officers, judges, journalists, and the Annual Media Award for tolerance jointly granted by the Commissioner and the OSCE.

Secretary General Schmid fully supported the further work of the Commissioner and pointed out the very good cooperation with the institution, which gives a great contribution to the further building of a society based on respect for human rights and the principle of equality.

Janković and Schmid also agreed that it is necessary to continue the intensive inclusion of gender equality issues in all segments of social life and the empowerment of women in all areas.
