Team of girl students „Atina“ from the Faculty of Law in Niš, Bojana Arsenijević, Gala Bončić and Katarina Nikolić won the first prize in the oral part of the 4<sup>th</sup> National competition in trial simulation in the field of protection against discrimination „Condemn discrimination“. Winners in written submission part was team „Milet“ from the Faculty of Law in Belgrade, with members Andrea Stevanović and Aleksandra Čvorović. Winners of the second place in oral part of contest were Marija Štrbac and Aleksandar Dobraš from team „Sparta“, from the Faculty of Law in Belgrade.
Bojana Arsenijević, student of the Faculty of Law in Niš was announced the best orator.
Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Janković congratulated winners and said that our country needs young lawyers who are ready and motivated to deal with issues of human rights and who believe in the society where Constitution, laws and right to equality are truly respected.
Today’s competition convinced me that Serbia has such young people and that we can be proud of them, said the Commissioner.
She stressed that this year’s competition topic was discrimination on the grounds of gender and age, in the field of labor and employment and explained that complaints on these grounds and in these area were most commonly submitted to the Commissioner for Protection of Equality.
Demographic structure of our country is such that we will certainly face the challenges of aging population in the following decades, although the measures of population politics have been taken. This competition was an excellent opportunity for all lawyers to practice for situations they will inevitably face in the future.
Trial simulation in the field of protection against discrimination (Moot Court) was created as the contest for law students from accredited faculties in Serbia and consists of preparing the lawsuit and defense, as well as simulation of discussions at the hearing before the competent court, all based on the given case related to protection against discrimination. Goal of this competition was to contribute to the development of training in this area and to improve equality in the Republic of Serbia, as well. This year, the best students from registered teams tested their skills and knowledge at the premises of Administrative Court in Belgrade and National Bank of Serbia. Contest was organized by the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, financially supported by the Open Society Foundation.
