Meeting of Commissioner Janković and Minister Miščević

Commissioner for Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, and Minister for European Integration, Tanja Miščević, discussed the state of human rights in this area, the activities of the Commissioner, and the promotion of equality in our society.

In particular, there was talk of the need to carefully consider all the recommendations of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality in drafting legal regulations, as well as about the achievement of transitional benchmarks in that area in chapter 23, which refers to the judiciary and fundamental rights. Janković and Miščević pointed out that this issue is particularly important, bearing in mind that the achievement of these transitional benchmarks is a condition for the opening of other chapters, that is, clusters in the negotiation process.

During the conversation, the possibilities of considering the needs of the Commissioner in the planning and programming of the European Union’s development aid to Serbia, in order to further strengthen the professional and technical capacities of the Institution, important for all citizens of the Republic of Serbia, were also discussed.

The Minister and the Commissioner agreed that it is necessary to work together to promote the values ​​of equality and non-discrimination, which are some of the core values ​​of the EU itself. The importance of the full-fledged participation of the Commissioner for Equality of the Republic of Serbia in the work of the Network of European Institutions for Equality, which is a unique European platform for cooperation in this area, was also emphasized. In addition, an agreement was reached on the additional improvement of regional cooperation on the understanding of human rights and their importance for the further European path of the countries that are on the way to joining the Union.
