As part of the Youth Panel – Youth for Equality project, implemented with the support of the Erasmus+ program, an online training session was held today dedicated to issues of gender equality, discrimination, and equal opportunities. The training was organized by the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality of the Republic of Serbia and the Ombudsperson for Gender Equality of the Republic of Croatia, bringing together members of the Youth Panel via the Zoom platform.
The training was opened by Brankica Janković, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, who emphasized the importance of involving young people in the fight against discrimination and the promotion of equality as a fundamental social goal.
Višnja Ljubičić, Ombudsperson for Gender Equality of the Republic of Croatia, delivered three presentations covering key aspects of gender equality in line with international and European standards. The lectures addressed topics such as the historical development of gender roles, gender stereotypes, sexism and gender-based violence, as well as the issue of occupational segregation into “male” and “female” jobs.
Continuing the program, Ljubičić spoke about the importance of creating equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender, while Mladenka Morović, advisor to the Ombudsperson, presented textbook analyses pointing to discriminatory practices in education.
The program concluded with the screening of the animated film Two Little Girls, which addresses human trafficking and the vulnerability of young girls who become victims of those they trusted. The film has won numerous festival awards and left a strong impression on the audience.
An interactive discussion with participants demonstrated a high level of engagement and interest among young people in the topic of gender equality. The event once again confirmed the importance of education, cross-sector cooperation, and the active involvement of youth in building a fairer and more equal society.
