The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, held a working meeting with the representatives of the Autonomous Women’s Center, where they discussed the upcoming changes to the Criminal Code and their harmonization with the Istanbul Convention, in order to better protect women victims of gender-based violence.

Janković reminded that this year, in addition to the initiatives to amend the Criminal Code, the Commissioner sent two initiatives to the Ministry of Justice that related to the amendment of the Law on the Execution of Criminal Sanctions in such a way as to prescribe the obligation of the competent authorities to, ex officio, in cases of gender-based and domestic violence, inform the victim about the release of the convicted person from prison, as well as the initiative aimed at better coordination and work of competent state bodies and institutions with the aim of preventing domestic violence and protection from domestic violence.
