The tenth jubilee competition in the simulation of a trial in the field of discrimination has ended

The team of female students “Draga Ljočić” from the Faculty of Law of the University of Niš is the winner of the tenth jubilee competition “Moot Court”, a trial simulation in the field of protection against discrimination for final year law students, organized by the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality with the support of the Register of Internet Domains of Serbia RINDS. Second place was won by the team “Mileva Marić Einstein” from the Faculty of Law of the University of Novi Sad, while Dušica Lazić from the Faculty of Law of the University of Niš was declared the best speaker. This year, a special prize was awarded to Teodora Stevanović from the team “Milica Stojadinović Srpkinja” from the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade.

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, congratulated the awardees and stated that she is glad that generations of future lawyers have been participating in the competition for ten years, thus showing their interest in training in the field of protection against discrimination. This is significant today, during major crises that represent a challenge for protecting human rights, because there is a thin line between rights and fairness, said Janković. She noted that the “Moot Court” enjoys a reputation in European legal circles and thanked the professors and mentors who prepared the contestants.

“Moot court” is a unique competition of this type in Europe in the field of discrimination and is intended for undergraduate and master law students in the Republic of Serbia, with the aim of contributing to the improvement of equality. It consists of drafting a lawsuit and a response to it and a simulation of the discussion at the hearing based on the given case, which this year was about discrimination based on convictions in the field of work and employment. The judges of the final part of the competition were former President of the Constitutional Court Bosa Nenadić, Vida Petrović Škero from the Center for Judicial Research, Tijana Šurlan from the Constitutional Court, Nebojša Đuričić from the Forum of Judges of Serbia and director of the RNIDS foundation Dejan Đukić.
