On the International Pride Day the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Janković said that there is progress in protecting and improving the rights of members of the LGBT community, but that they are still faced with discrimination in the workplace, in front of public authorities, and in the field of health care.
The Commissioner continuously supports all efforts within their competencies, works to suppress discrimination and improve the position of the LGBT population in Serbia, said the Commissioner, stating that the essence of progress is reflected precisely in the removal of obstacles that prevent LGBT citizens from being equal members of society.
Expressing regret for the tragedy in Oslo, in which two people were killed and twenty injured, she pointed out that such cases should be a reminder to all societies that human rights must be constantly protected.
