Brankica Janković, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality took part in a focus group as part of “Position of the elderly in rural areas” project implemented by the institution of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and Red Cross of Serbia.
The aim of this focus group was to find out how the elderly in rural areas live and what are the challenges they face. This activitiy saw the participation of 13 elderly citizens living in Čačak and the surrounding villages. During this event, Commissioner Janković was informed about everyday problems the elderly face, she presented the work and activities of the institution of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and spoke about ways in which citizens can apply with the Commisioner and seek protection against discrimination.
Other participants included experts with Red Cross of Serbia, namely Nataša Todorović and Milutin Vračević, as well as the secretary of the Red Cross branch office in Čačak, Biljana Davidović.
“Position of the elderly in rural areas” project is implemented with the financial support of the United Nations Population Fund. So far, such focus groups have been organized with the elderly living in the municipalities of Kragujevac, Beograd, Kikinda, Pirot and Čačak.
