Acting within the statutory competence[1] to monitor the implementation of the laws on the prohibition of discrimination and recommend measures for achieving equality to the public authorities and other persons, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality refers to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and the Board for Standardization of the Serbian Language the following

RECOMMENDATION OF MEASURES FOR ACHIEVING EQUALITY AND PROTECTION AGAINST DISCRIMINATION

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality recommends that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development:

• take measures and activities within its competence in order to check the approved textbooks in Serbian for the eighth grade of primary school in terms of content related to languages and remove content that is contrary to anti-discrimination regulations and the ratified European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development will inform the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality about the measures taken in order to implement this recommendation, within 30 days from the day of receiving the recommendation of measures for achieving equality.

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality recommends that the Serbian Language Standardization Committee:

• in the future, when giving an opinion, take into account that the Republic of Serbia has ratified the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.

In accordance with the law, no appeal or any other legal remedy is allowed against this recommendation of measures for achieving equality.
