In the procedure that was carried out following a complaint by an organization for the protection of human rights against Sulejman Ugljanin, the president of the Party of Democratic Action of Sandžak, due to discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, in connection with the expression of the position on same-sex unions at a press conference of the Party of Democratic Action of Sandžak, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality issued the opinion that Sulejman Ugljanin violated the provisions of the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination.
Sulejman Ugljanin was recommended to take all necessary measures to remove the disputed statement from the YouTube channel and other places accessible to the public, to issue a public apology to members of the LGBT population, and to meet with representatives of a civil society organization that deals with the protection of the rights of LGBT persons in order to become familiar with the problems faced by members of this population, as well as the consequences for them of statements that create a fearful, hostile, degrading, humiliating and offensive environment, and to Make sure, in the future, when making statements in the media, to adhere to the regulations on prohibition of discrimination.
Given that the recommendations were not acted upon even after a warning within the legal term of 30 days, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, in accordance with the Law, is informing the public about this.
