At the finals of competition “Capture an idea in digital world” held on the occasion of the International Day of Girls in IKT, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic said that great number of girls today is interested in information technologies and STEM sciences, but that percentage of them who decide to get formal education in these areas is still insufficient.
We should fight against gender roles and prejudices about professions that are expected to be suitable for men or women every day, stressed Commissioner and added that we must not allow ourselves to miss the opportunity that digital technologies are offering, in which girls can and should equally participate.
She stated that the support for girls in STEM sciences is one of the mechanisms for achievement of full equality and that we must not forget what all women have done in the previous century, fighting for true equality in the area of education as well.
Commissioner congratulated all girls who participated in the competition “Capture an idea in digital world” that was organized by Association of Business Women of Serbia, with support from Telenor Foundation and stressed that today we can do everything through digital world, including combat against discrimination.
Other speakers at the meeting, beside Commissioner, were also Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic, general director of Telenor Serbia Ingeborg Ofsthus and president of Association of Business Women of Serbia Sanja Popovic Pantic.
