Brankica Janković, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality took part in a seminar with national Specialized Bodies organized by the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) in Strasbourg.
The main topic of this seminar was the role of national specialized bodies in advising legislative and executive authorities as well as other stakeholders.
ECRI General Recommendations define functions and responsibilities of national specialized bodies. The advisory function extended to legislative and executive authorities, as well as to other stakeholders, includes monitoring content and effects of laws and other legal documents so as to enable proposing amendments, offer advice aimed at improving regulations and strengthen practice in the area of combatting racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and intolerance. Specialized bodies should advise other stakeholders too, such as employers’ associations, trade unions, NGOs . . .
