Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, participated in the regional conference “Women in the Police and Leadership: Challenges and Good Practices”, organized by the Network of Women in the Police of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with UN Women and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs of the Department of State (INL) and American Embassy in Belgrade.
Women in Serbia have shown that they can be successful leaders, and just by the example of the crises we have been facing since the pandemic, we see how women can be part of the solution and bear the burden for the benefit of everyone. Janković said that we can learn a lot from women in the security sector, and their representation in decision-making positions contributes to different perspectives necessary for dealing with security issues.
According to Janković, much has been achieved in the field of equality. However, women still face various forms of discrimination, which is why additional efforts must be made to improve the position and safety of women globally.
The regional conference “Women in the Police and Leadership: Challenges and Good Practices” was organized to exchange experiences and good practices, as well as challenges at the regional and European level in the security sector when it comes to female leaders and their role, but also to acquire new knowledge and networking and to strengthen cooperation through mutual support and joint initiatives.
