On the occasion of 16 November – International Day for Tolerance, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality announces a competition for the Annual Media Award for the best media texts and reports on the topic of combating discrimination and promoting equality and tolerance.
The aim of the competition, launched this year for the eleventh time, is to promote equality and tolerance in the media, combat prejudice and stereotypes against minority, marginalized and vulnerable groups, as well as to increase the visibility of the institution of the Commissioner.
Conditions for participation: Journalists from all print and electronic, local and national media registered in Serbia are eligible to participate. Original works published in the period from 1 October 2025 to 1 October 2026 may be submitted to the competition.
Evaluation criteria:
• Recognition of the phenomenon of discrimination
• Contribution to reducing stereotypes and prejudices
• Affirmative reporting and the promotion of equality and tolerance
Categories and awards: A total of six awards will be presented – three in each of the two categories:
- Radio / TV / Video Report
- Print Article / Online Article
The winners will be selected by an expert jury consisting of recipients of first prizes from previous competitions, as well as representatives of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality.
Application for the competition: Applications should be sent by email to info.grupa@ravnopravnost.gov.rs no later than 15 October 2026. The application should include the media report/article (link, PDF or JPG format), a brief biography, and the contact details of the author.
Important notes: More than one journalist from the same media outlet may participate, but each may submit only one entry. Journalists who received an award in the previous two years are not eligible to participate in this year’s competition. The names of the awarded authors will be officially announced at the annual conference marking International Day for Tolerance, on 16 November, as well as on the website and social media channels of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality.
