For the formulation of responsible and quality public policies at the local level, which will lead to the full realization of the rights of citizens and their equality, it is important to ensure that the measures and policies do not omit any social group, particularly not those who are in a more vulnerable position and in need of greater support, said Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Janković at a conference in the framework of the project “Social rights of vulnerable groups” (SoRI II) organized by GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit).
The Commissioner pointed out that last year’s report showed that the highest number of complaints to the Commissioner in the field of social relations were filed against a public authority and that it shows that much more attention should be paid to providing services that citizens expect from public authorities, as well as to the full exercise of their rights.
At the conference, results of social mapping were presented, which was implemented as a pilot project in 4 municipalities in Serbia, and which is meant to ensure that when it comes to data collection and public policy-making there are no omitted or “lost” social groups, in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and Agenda 2030.
