Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, attended the ceremony marking the 147th anniversary of the founding of the Red Cross of Serbia. The Commissioner has been cooperating with this humanitarian, independent, and voluntary organization for years, by providing support in their work and with her volunteer engagement.
“My dear and long-time allies, I congratulate you on decades of dedicated work in helping everyone who needs help. Humanity and solidarity in action, every minute,” said the Commissioner.
Along with numerous volunteers, partners, and donors, as well as high-ranking dignitaries, the special guest of this year’s Red Cross of Serbia Day was Marko Čikarić, a teacher from Prokuplje and a humanist, who was presented with books for the school library, as well as a basketball ball – symbolically, because a representative of the Red Cross, a hundred years ago, brought the first basketball ball to Serbia from America.
At the ceremony, it was emphasized that without the volunteers of the Red Cross of Serbia, it would not be possible to save the vulnerable and offer help when it is most necessary, but also to act preventively in the field of health and social protection and promote humanitarian values in society.
The Red Cross of Serbia, founded on February 6, 1876, was one of the first 15 Red Cross organizations, and presently has 750 employees and 70,000 trained volunteers.
