Announcement regarding the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic stressed that their position has to be improved more intensively in all areas of social life.

Disability continues to be at the top of the discrimination grounds in this year as well, according to the number of complaints which were submitted to our institution. During 2017, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality received an increased number of complaints related to areas of public services providing or using objects and surfaces. Apart from these areas, complaints were filed because of discrimination in the area of education, healthcare, as well as of labor and employment.

“It is essential that all relevant authorities take concrete measures aimed at improvement of the quality of life of citizens with disabilities in all areas: from labor and employment, health and social care, full inclusion in the education system, removing of obstacles in accessing object and services, information availability and all other areas, with aim to reach full equality. At the same time, it is necessary that relevant state bodies follow the implementation of all measures which are already enacted at republican and local level”, emphasizes Commissioner Jankovic.
