The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, participated in the opening of an online forum organized by the “Group of Ambassadors – Friends of Gender Equality” in Stockholm. Presenting previous experiences in promoting gender equality from the point of view of the institution and the State of Serbia, the Commissioner emphasized that significant progress has been made in the areas of women’s participation in political life, prevention and protection against gender discrimination, as well as gender responsive budgeting.
“Our institution is continuously making efforts to unite state bodies at all levels of government, civil society, as well as other key social actors because protection against discrimination is a responsible task that requires synergy in order that the full equality of all citizens be achieved. Women’s empowerment is key to the socio-economic development of the country because true gender equality cannot be achieved without the inclusion of half of the members of a society,” Janković pointed out.
The group of ambassadors – friends of gender equality was formed as part of multilateral cooperation, using the Swedish model, which includes the formulation of sustainable development policies with the aim of strengthening gender equality.
