The Commissioner participates at “Independent Institutions in Touch with People”

Brankica Janković, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Saša Janković, Republic of Serbia Ombudsman and Stanojla Mandić, Deputy Commissioner for Public Information and Personal Data Protection visited Sombor today as part of „Independent Institutions in Touch with People” project. The objectives of this project, led by Civic Initiatives is to create a network of organizations together with three independent institutions so as to improve a local link between independent institutions and citizens.

The focal point of interest was the elimination of architectural barriers which affect persons with disability, and other problems such as the pace at which land books data is made available to citizens, the need to enhance health care institutions and Pension and Disability Fund data.

The conclusions of today’s meeting speak of the need to strengthen awareness and civic initiatives in tackling local community problems stressing how important it would be to organize similar events in the future allowing citizens to directly present their experience and problems in respect of local community. Promotional leaflets were distributed on the work of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and results of its activities on the territory of Sombor Municipality.
