Acting within the framework of the legally prescribed competencies to monitor the implementation of laws concerning the prohibition of discrimination and recommend to the public authorities and other persons measures to achieve equality (Art. 33, items 7 and 9 of the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination, “Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia” No. 22/2009) acting upon the event concerning the ratification of the accreditation of the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the announcement that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia will amend the composition of the delegation in accordance with the rules of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality gives the following

RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. When deciding on the composition of a delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe it is necessary to apply the provision of Art. 38 of the Law on Gender Equality (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia” No. 22/2009), which stipulates: “When selecting or nominating delegations representing the Republic of Serbia, the composition of delegations must comprise at least 30% persons of less represented gender, in accordance with international standards.” Accordingly, having in mind the total number of members of the parliamentary delegation, at least two women must be part of this delegation.
  2. The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia will, without delay, regulate the manner in which it will be ensured that at least 30% of persons of less represented gender are members of all parliamentary delegations participating in the international cooperation of delegations, in accordance with the regulation referred to in Art. 38 para. 2 of the Law on Gender Equality.
