YOUNG SCOUTS DISCUSSED DISCRIMINATION WITH COMMISSIONER

Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic and employees from our institution took part in workshops dedicated to children and youth, which are being held within 10th Serbian Scout Association Rally at Ada Ciganlija.

Children are not burdened by prejudices and differences among people and therefore it is important to extensively work on their education in order to keep an open, curious, variety accepting spirit that is typical for their age, stressed Commissioner. She added that through such workshops children learn to recognize prejudices and discriminatory attitudes and how to react to them.

Workshops participants, mainly children aged 11-15, had the opportunity to learn what equality means, why it is important to respect it in all aspects of life, but also to learn what discrimination is, how to recognize it and fight it. Through discussion with Commissioner and the employees of the institution, young scouts tested their behavior in certain situations, finding out how stereotypes and prejudices lead to exclusion from the society and how difficult it may be for the young people.
