Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic strongly condemns the writing of anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi graffiti in Novi Sad, as well as the breaking of windows and the drawings on the facade of the Croatian Home in Novi Slankamen.
She reminds that such inadmissible behavior is prohibited by law and does not reflect the general climate in society. Serbia is a state of all its citizens, regardless of nationality or religion, and that is why it is important that such individual acts of violence and intolerance are clearly condemned by the public. The incitement of racial, religious and national hatred, which has led to catastrophic consequences throughout history, is dangerous for any democratic society, Commissioner says.
Commissioner Jankovic expects the authorities, primarily at the local level, to remove the graffiti and help repair the damage, as well as that the perpetrators will be brought to justice quickly.
