The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, in cooperation with the Sports Association of Persons with Disabilities of Belgrade, once again held the traditional campaign “Equality to the Finish Line” as part of the 38th Belgrade Marathon. The aim of this initiative is to break down prejudices about the abilities of persons with disabilities and to highlight the importance of addressing the problems they face in daily life. “Our personal characteristics must not be a reason for unequal treatment — whether in sports, at work, at the counter, on public transport, or at the doctor’s office,” said Brankica Janković, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality.
At Nikola Pašić Square, a booth was set up where citizens and marathon participants received informational materials about the concept and types of discrimination, as well as ways to recognize and prevent it. During conversations with staff from the Commissioner’s office, visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the challenges persons with disabilities face in the fields of sports, while using public spaces, facilities, and city transportation, and to meet some of Serbia’s top para-athletes.
The campaign concluded with a joint participation in the Fun Run.
