The assault on two members of the theater from Zagreb, who were guests of the International Festival “Synergy”, which took place in the center of Novi Sad, is unacceptable and reprehensible, said the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković.
The Commissioner reminds that the law prohibits any form of violence, and that it is especially dangerous if the violence is motivated by any kind of hatred or intolerance. She added that it is even more worrying that, according to the media, the incident was committed by young people in Novi Sad, a city that holds the title of European Capital of Culture and that has done a lot to promote diversity and tolerance as a multinational environment.
“Every isolated and individual case of any kind of intolerance must be met with harsh condemnation and adequate sanctions, which is why it is important that the competent institutions take all the necessary actions, find the attackers, determine the exact motives of the assault and act in accordance with the law”, Commissioner Janković said.
