The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, will host the 36th Gathering of Flutists of Serbia “Oj Moravo”, which will be held on July 22 and 23 in Prislonica. At the press conference held on that occasion, the Commissioner said that just as human rights have no gender, nation, or religion but belong to everyone – our flute is universal and belongs to humanity.
“Art is a bridge between people and cultures, it awakens feelings and empathy, helps us understand the other and the different, and let’s not forget that even in the most difficult moments, music called us to solidarity and togetherness, not excluding anyone, not even those of a different skin color, religion, and nation”, Janković pointed out. She added that the new generation of flutists, in terms of number and quality that we see from year to year, is encouraging because they affirm flute art and craft, and speaking about the connection between human rights and art, she emphasized gender equality and female creativity. According to her, girls today are an inspiration and support for all those who want to engage in music and art in general but think that they have no place because there is still a prejudice that some instruments are reserved only for boys. The Commissioner wished the participants to persevere in quality and creativity so that our tradition and culture would be heard far and wide because they are an important part of European and world cultural heritage.
Deputy President of the Čačak City Assembly Aleksandar Maksimović, President of the Čačak Cultural and Educational Community Sanja Urošević, and flute maestro Darko Prelić spoke about the event and this year’s program. Young performers Jelisaveta and Svetozar Šutić, as well as the association “Evgenija” from Ježevica, presented themselves.
