The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, participated in the Third Additional Meeting on the Human Dimension on the Protection of the Rights of Victims of Human Trafficking, which is being held in Vienna. At the panel “Combating human trafficking in cyberspace”, Commissioner Janković presented Serbia’s experience, which could be a small contribution and one of the possible tools in the fight against human trafficking, especially in cyberspace. She said that the Republic of Serbia established the National Center for Child Safety on the Internet in 2017, stating that it is a very good mechanism for education, counseling, and reporting of violence and any other danger or inappropriate speech to which children may be exposed.
Children can download material that is adjusted to them, which is very important because the conclusion of this conference is that in the public space formal language is often used that is not adapted to children’s age and as such is not even useful.
She indicated that the problem of human trafficking is global and requires global responses and a lot of multidisciplinary knowledge and experience that is important to share, for which this conference is an opportunity.
The Commissioner welcomed the caravan organized by the government of Serbia – a campaign in schools for smart and safe use of the Internet, which was implemented this year. She also said that she welcomes the campaign of her colleague, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, “Keep it Personal”, which was supported by the OEBS mission to Serbia.
