STATEMENT REGARDING THE FREQUENT ATTACKS ON WOMEN JOURNALISTS

Regarding the offensive and inappropriate remarks about female journalists from local media broadcast on Informer TV, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijević, points out that it is legitimate to criticize editorial policy, television programs, and their content, but without insulting female journalists on the basis of any personal characteristic.

The fact that we are reacting again, only a few days after condemning Zdravko Ponoš’s discriminatory comments about the female presenters of TV Prva, testifies to the frequency of attacks on women working in the media, the Commissioner states. Women journalists in our society are far too often targets of discrimination and verbal violence simply because they are women. It is particularly concerning when such messages come from public figures, especially fellow journalists, thereby encouraging discrimination and normalizing a misogynistic narrative in the public sphere, Antonijević said.
