‘Ring the Bell for Gender Equality‘

Some life circumstances, like those in which we are today, show that we need every person, that only together in the partnership of men and women can we overcome the challenges we face, said the Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic, at the ‘Ring the Bell for Gender Equality‘.

The commissioner pointed out that our demographic structure shows that we do not have the luxury of dividing jobs between men and women, stating that gender equality is an economic, social and cultural issue. Much has been done to promote gender equality but women are still not encouraged enough to enter various forms of economic engagement. Although it is a good piece of data that there are 34% of women entrepreneurs in Serbia, the fact is that many entered it out of necessity. Generations have grown up being convinced what is not for women and what is a man’s job. The gender gap is increasing at the general level, and it is not encouraging that the World Economic Forum predicts it will take 257 years to overcome the gender gap, the commissioner said. She also added that she hopes that a larger number of women in politics will influence the imposition of topics that are of vital importance in which women will participate in a better way.

The “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” organized by the Belgrade Stock Exchange and the Global Response Network of Serbia is being held for the second time with the aim of pointing out the importance of gender equality for economic growth and sustainable development.
