Preparation for the implementation of UN standard for the employment of LGBTI persons

Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic met with representatives of UN Human Rights Team in Serbia in order to consider possibilities for contribution of the institution of Commissioner to the implementation of UN global standards for the employment of LGBTI persons in our country. These standards imply respect for human rights of LGBTI workers, prevention and elimination of discrimination at the workplace and support in work and employment.

Commissioner expressed the willingness to engage the institution in the implementation of standards and stressed that it is necessary to include Labor Inspectorate, as well as other executive authority bodies in this process, in order to successfully implement these standards.

Head of UN Human Rights Team in Serbia Milan Markovic also announced the execution of the project with aim to improve position of persons with disabilities, especially those with mental disabilities. This project will include amendments of legal provisions regarding deprivation of legal capacity that would allow people with disabilities to be more actively included in the labor market and to achieve greater independence in economy, social and legal relations.
