Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, sent a recommendation to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development to discuss with the Institute of Public Health the possibility of holding classes in schools, in accordance with appropriate health care measures, in order to provide equal opportunities for every child to have quality education.
The recommendation was made specifically having in mind the position of children with disabilities, Roma children, children from informal settlements, socially vulnerable children, children who do not have access or access to the Internet, children placed in institutions, as well as other children from vulnerable groups.
Previously, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality was addressed by civil society organizations as well as parents who mentioned various problems and difficulties faced by children, especially from vulnerable groups. In addition, parents of children with disabilities stated that there have been changes in the daily habits of children for whom this routine is of great importance, since there is a situation when day care centers for children with autism do not work.
Having in mind the current situation and the gradual easing of the introduced measures, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality expresses the expectation that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development will consider the possibility of to bring back teaching in schools.
