Ambassador and Head of Delegation of European Union to the Republic of Serbia Emanuele Giaufret visited the institution of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, where he had discussion with Commissioner Brankica Janković about respect for diversity and the importance of equality as the foundation of every democratic society.

During the meeting, they talked about the achieved standards in the field of human rights protection and the importance of equality, which represent values common to all European societies and are crucial for for the process of Serbia’s accession to the EU.

Discussion also covered the topics related to activities aimed at supporting various vulnerable population groups, including combating intolerance and hate speech in the public sphere.

Ambassador Giofre emphasized the significant contribution and role of the institution of Commissioner which is dedicated to protection of equality, strengthening human rights, the rule of law, and further development of a democratic and tolerant society.

Janković and Žiofre agreed on the necessity of further strengthening the capacity of the institution, and discussed future activities and joint projects in various areas, to enhance equality.
