Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic met with Ambassador of Portugal Maria Virgínia Mendes da Silva Pina with whom she discussed the importance of equality and further European integration of Serbia, having in mind that on 1 January, Portugal took over rotating EU presidency.
Jankovic presented Da Silva Pina the most important activities of the institution and emphasized that issues of equality and respect for human rights are priority and common value of every modern democratic society, which was particularly visible during the global pandemic outbreak.
Ambassador pointed out that mission of Portuguese presidency is founded on values of solidarity, mutual approaching and unity and extended her full support to Commissioner and her efforts aimed to improvement of equality, rule of law, tolerance and accepting differences, which are the common values of all European societies, also important for acceleration of the process of Serbian accession to EU, which is supported by Portugal.
Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic and Ambassador of Portugal Maria Virgínia Mendes da Silva Pina discussed also a plan to organize a visit to Portugal for women from rural areas in Serbia in order to exchange knowledge and experiences in the area of improvement of agriculture and agritourism.
