Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic congratulates 11 October, International Day of the Girl Child, a day which was established by United Nations with goal to promote the rights of girls. Commissioner stressed that on every day we should talk about the importance of equality because there is no progress in the society without equality.
Commissioner said that there are stereotypes and prejudices still existing, which may influence girls and boys not to develop their potentials in a right way, because they are both exposed to the pressure of gender roles while growing up. Commissioner stressed that the education should have more important role in suppressing of these prejudices, because everybody have the right to have an equal chance.
Commissioner emphasizes that it is necessary to teach children from their early age that discrimination and violence are harmful and how such behaviors influence the development of a child and its personality. She has a message for girls that they can build a more successful society together with their boy peers now and with their men partner and colleagues in future.
