General Hospital in Prijepolje discriminated employees because of their age

In the proceeding upon complaints filed by six employees of General Hospital in Prijepolje, because of discrimination on grounds of age, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic issued an opinion that provisions of the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination were violated, together with recommendations for their elimination to acting director of General Hospital in Prijepolje.

Namely, complaint submitters were appointed to lower positions by annexes of their employment contracts and in that moment, five of them were over 50 years of age and one complainant was 42. During the proceeding, the acting director of General Hospital in Prijepolje did not offer evidence which could lead to the conclusion that changes in their legal employment status were grounded in impartial and justified reasons which were not correlated to their common personal characteristic – age, so it was recommended to him to undertake all necessary measures from his competency with aim to eliminate consequences of discriminatory actions, as well as not to violate anti-discrimination regulations in future, when conducting operations within his competency.

Since acting director of General Hospital in Prijepolje did not act upon the recommendation, not even after the warning, in the legal period of 30 days, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality informs the public about this, in accordance with Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination.
