“EQUALLY UNTIL THE FIHISH LINE” AT THE BELGRADE MARATHON

Commissioner for Protection of Equality supported the participation of persons with disabilities in the 32nd Belgrade Marathon for the eight time through the action „Equally Until the Finish Line“. Many citizens who visited the Commissioner’s booth had the opportunity to mingle and talk with athletes with disability and learn about the obstacles that they are facing and also to talk to Commissioner and staff members about harmfulness of discrimination and ways for its suppression.

Commissioner Brankica Jankovic stressed that this action is a way to highlight that these persons can be fully equal in all areas of life and that Belgrade and Serbia have proved once again that adequate conditions can be provided. Due to this, the Belgrade Marathon received „AIMS Social Award“ last year, a noticeable international recognition for work with the runners with disability and other social initiatives.

Beside numerous participants in the action „Equally Until the Finish Line“, organized by Commissioner for Protection of Equality and Sport Association of Persons with Disability of Belgrade (SSOIB), were also Danijela Jovanovic, para taekwondoo vice-champion of the world and the hero of 2018 marathon Stanislav Prvulovic from the association „Debra – Butterfly Children“.

The event ended with the beginning of the Race for pleasure where athletes with disability, guests, staff members of the Commissioner and many other citizens took part and cheered them during the race.
