Regarding reports about the appearance of an offensive poster in Kruševac calling for a boycott of Albanian-owned shops, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijević, said that every statement or action that targets people or calls for discrimination on the grounds of their national origin deserves clear condemnation.

Calls for a boycott and the use of offensive terms for members of any national community are unacceptable and contrary to the values of equality, mutual respect and human dignity. I expect the competent authorities to establish all the circumstances of this case and take measures in accordance with the law, Antonijević said.

On that occasion, he pointed out that he had contacted the Mayor of Kruševac, and that through good communication between the institution of the Commissioner and the local self-government, as well as through the joint work of state authorities, local authorities and all citizens, we can build a society in which everyone feels safe, accepted and equal, regardless of their national origin. Serbia must remain a society of equality and respect for all, the Commissioner emphasized.
