The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality is hosting a bilateral working visit by a delegation of the German Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency (FADA), led by Commissioner Ferda Ataman. The purpose of the visit is to exchange experiences of good practice between the two central state institutions for the suppression of discrimination and protection of equality, as well as familiarization with the essential strategies to solve problems in this area.
Commissioner Brankica Janković welcomed her colleague Ferda Ataman and the FADA delegation and introduced them to the institution’s most important activities. The meeting discussed mechanisms for protection against discrimination, dealing with citizen complaints, strategic lawsuits that the Commissioner leads, as well as initiatives to amend legal regulations to improve equality, research and special reports related to individual social groups, and the importance of building good relations with the media. The FADA delegation expressed a particular interest in the legislation on protection against discrimination in Serbia due to the upcoming changes to regulations in Germany that relate to this area.
Commissioner Janković particularly emphasized the importance of the exchange of experience between the two institutions, especially in light of global geo-political challenges, as well as the European standards for the equality bodies, which will regulate and strengthen the competencies of national institutions to fight against all forms of discrimination, and which are expected to be adopted during this year.
Also, a meeting was held, organized by the Commissioner, with representatives of civil society organizations, Nataša Vučković from the Center for Democracy Foundation, Andrijana Radojčić Nedeljković from NGO Atina, and Danilo Ćurčić from NGO A11.
