Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković participated at an event on the occasion of awarding certificates to the first generation of students who have successfully completed a one-year training program at the Legal Clinic for the protection against discrimination at the University of Niš Law School.
By extending support to the operation of the Legal Clinic, Commissioner Janković said that Serbia needs young lawyers who wish to engage in the area of human rights, primarily with respect to the protection against discrimination, and Legal Clinic is a place where they can acquire the necessary knowledge, but practical experience as well.
Free legal assistance in cases of discrimination extended at the Legal Clinic is a valuable service to citizens, said the Commissioner stating that she was convinced that cooperation between the Legal Clinic and the institution of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality would contribute to a better understanding of the phenomenon of discrimination, its prevention and more efficient protection.
The results achieved after one year of operation of the Legal Clinic were presented during the official event organized at the University of Niš Law School. The Faculty Dean, Saša Knežević opened the conference while the Legal Clinic Coordinator Professor Nevena Petrušić called on all law school students to apply for attending the program as the second generation of students at the Law School. This Legal Clinic for the Protection against Discrimination of the University of Niš Law School, was established with the support of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Serbia.
