Commissioner Jankovic and Francoise Jacob discussed Sustainable Development Goals

Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic had a meeting with Resident Coordinator of UN Country Team in Serbia Francoise Jacob. On this occasion, they discussed the Sustainable Development Goals, especially the proactive partnership approach and future collaborated projects aimed to decrease of inequalities, as one of the priorities of Agenda 2030 which pervades all segments of the Goals.

Jankovic pointed out that strong and well-prepared institutions are the key for reaching Sustainable Development Goals, which primarily has to contribute to decrease of poverty. “Constitution of a specialized inter-ministerial body and Voluntary Report on the Implementation of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, which Serbia presented to UN, show the willingness of our state to dedicatedly work on reaching the Goals”, said Commissioner. There is a need for extended work on creation and implementation of legal framework which is a condition for successful attainment of Agenda for sustainable development.

Jacob pointed out that Agenda 2030 will be fulfilled only with joint actions and responsibility of all political and social actors, private sector, local self-governments and civil society. UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia stressed that equality institutions, such as Commissioner for Protection of Equality, have significant role in this process and supported further work of Commissioner and the institution. It was concluded during the discussion that greater local and global solidarity is of the outmost importance, especially in times of pandemic, and that principles of equality and sustainability are of great significance for overcoming the challenges of post-pandemic period in which no one will be left behind.
