Literary creation is an universal value for humanity that overcomes territorial and linguistic barriers. It gives us an insight into different cultures and customs, enabling us to better understand and accept differences, said Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic at the handover ceremony of the book signed by Egyptian Nobel Prize winner Nagib Mahfuz to the Adligat Book Museum.
Writer Nagib Mahfuz received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1988 and is the only Arab writer to have received this prestigious award so far. It is interesting that in his life, Mahfuz visited only three places, and one of them was Belgrade. The signed book, together with several other books by this Egyptian writer, was handed over to the president of the museum by the Egyptian ambassador to Serbia, Amr Aljowaily.
The Museum of Books and Travel, opened under the roof of the Adligat Association, next to the Museum of Serbian Literature, houses one of the most important collections of books about Egypt in this part of Europe.
The event was also attended by Dubravka Filiposki, president and Vuk Mirčetić, member of the Parliamentary group of friendship with Egypt and the Parliamentary committee for culture, Aneta Đermanović, president of the Serbian-Egyptian friendship society and prof. Darko Tanaskovic, one of the most prominent Serbian Arabists.
