The right to privacy belongs to the group of basic, fundamental human rights that aim to protect the moral and mental integrity of every human being, said the Commissioner for the Protection of equality, Brankica Janković, at the opening part of the annual conference “Privacy Week” organized by “Partners Serbia” on the occasion of celebrating January 28th, the Data Privacy Day.
Privacy as a concept stands at the very core of equality, namely, frequent violation of the right to privacy is only a step away from discrimination, said the Commissioner. She emphasized that the right to privacy contributes to freedom of expression, democratic processes, and personal security, which should be the focus of public policies. The fight for respect for the right to privacy is only possible if everyone makes a full contribution from the aspect of their competence and does everything to make Serbia a tolerant, safe, and equal society for all citizens.
The conference was attended by Plamena Halacheva, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia, Anne-Sietske Brinks, Deputy Head of Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Serbia and Montenegro, Milan Marinović, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Miodrag Milosavljević, Executive Director of the Open Society Foundation, and Ana Toskić Cvetinović, Executive Director of Partners Serbia.
