Commissioner at the meeting with companies for the professional rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities

Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic had a working meeting with the representatives of the Association of Companies for the Professional Rehabilitation and Employment of Persons with Disabilities (UIPS). Goal of the meeting was to find way for the improvement of the position and employment of persons with disabilities at the labor market, with special accent on the role and importance of these companies.

Activities and experiences of companies for the professional rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities are important for the improvement of their status at the labor market, provide examples of good practice and promotion of abilities, as well as of breaking prejudices about persons with disabilities as workers, said Commissioner Jankovic.

At the meeting, it was discussed about exact problems that persons with disabilities and companies for the professional rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities are facing. It is agreed that Commissioner shall take measures in accordance with it’s competencies and issued recommendations of measures for the achievement of equality. Suggestions stated by companies are related to determination of capacities and abilities of persons with disabilities in the process of evaluation of the ability to work and to elimination of doubts related to the implementation of Article 21 of the Citizens Income Tax Law.

At the meeting, attended also by the Association president Dragisa Markovic and representatives of companies from Nis, Kovin, Sabac and Smederevska Palanka, Commissioner concluded that these companies can be an example how to treat all employees, having in mind the existence of professional services which can recognize and solve exact problems of individual workers, regardless of the fact that they have a disability or belong to other vulnerable population group.
