Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Jankovic is attending the conference „Women’s rights, religion and refugees – European cities between welcome culture and rejection“, organized by FemCities network and City of Vienna.
Discussion topics at the conference are key problems and specific approaches of European cities, related to women and human rights in connection with refugees. Through panel discussions and workshops,
the conference participants are discussing various aspects of respecting of female refugees human rights, roles of religion, justice, customs and prejudices . They also discuss antifeminist tendencies that are getting louder in Europe and ways of influencing policies of cities and local communities, with an aim of creating better conditions for all citizens, but also to recognize and protect women’s rights.
At the conference margins, Commissioner Jankovic had a meeting with Sonja Lokar, executive director of Ljubljana office of CEE Gender Equality Network. They discussed strengthening of the network and women’s cooperation in the region at all levels.
Conference was opened by City Councilor for Women, Sandra Frauenberger, Deputy head of the Women’s Department Vienna, Andrea Mautz, while among the other speakers were Elisabeth Holzleithner, Viola Raheb, Constanze Jeitler, Michaela Kauer and other well known women’s rights experts and activist from numerous European cities.
