Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, spoke at the opening of the “World in 2024” conference organized by Kolor Media, which has become recognizable as an event that closes the current year with conclusions about the political, business, and social environment of Serbia and the region and opens issues of importance in the coming year.
Commissioner Janković pointed out the challenges the world is facing through the prism of global inequalities, gender inequality, and rapid technological development. She said that while the future is happening before our eyes in the form of the development of generative artificial intelligence, which has fundamentally shaken social relations all over the world, we are losing sight of the fact that women are experiencing the scenario from the movie “Back to the Future”. With the development of technologies, only the ways and mechanisms by which women can be discriminated against are developing just as quickly. However, Janković indicated that she has faith in the future and the role of women in it, stating that women have not yet had the opportunity to express many things but that opportunities will be created.
One of the panels at the conference in which representatives of the Commissioner participated was dedicated to gender-based violence in the digital sphere.
