Right to work is one of fundamental human rights, from which many other rights derive, said Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic at the conference “Working rights are our rights” and added that priority activity in our society should be to increase number of jobs and create better conditions at the labor market for all, especially for the members of vulnerable social groups.
In the current circumstances, not only in Serbia but globally, the challenge is to harmonize economy and economic interests and respecting of socio-economic rights.
Emphasizing the importance of prevention of discrimination for dignified work, Jankovic reminded that Commissioner produced the Code of Equality that contains directives for creating anti-discriminatory policy of employer and which is being implemented by the growing number of companies in Serbia.
Conference was organized by Foundation Center for Democracy with support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden, while among other speakers at the conference were also Natasa Vuckovic from the Foundation, Swedish Ambassador Jan Lunding, Danilo Milic from the International Center Olof Palme, Tanja Jakobi from Public Policy Research Center, representatives of trade union organizations and others.
