A cooperation agreement aimed at combating discrimination and improving the position of Roma men and women in Serbia was signed between the institution of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and the National Association of Roma Journalists (NARON). The meeting was attended by Commissioner Milan Antonijević and his associates Sanja Stanković and Milan Nikolić, while NARON was represented by Director Goran Vasić and Milorad Popović.

During the discussion, the importance of professional and ethical reporting, media literacy, as well as the need for a stronger response to discrimination, anti-Gypsyism and hate speech, was emphasised.

In the coming period, visits to Roma settlements throughout Serbia and discussions with residents about the importance of reporting discrimination are planned, while cooperation with NARON will help ensure that this message reaches as many people as possible. A particular focus will be placed on encouraging young Roma and members of other national minorities to pursue journalism, thereby directly contributing to greater visibility of the community and to breaking down prejudices in the public sphere.
