Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, and Assistant Commissioner Mirjana Kecman, participated in the international conference entitled “Equality data as a tool to combat discrimination”, held in Stockholm, organized by the Swedish Equality Ombudsman.
During three sessions, representatives of national bodies for equality, civil society organizations, the academic community, and state policymakers discussed the importance of data on equality, where they exchanged opinions and suggestions on how to best use this data in the fight against discrimination in society and the promotion of equal rights and opportunities for all.
Commissioner Janković pointed out that more complete data will enable better analysis and open opportunities for more effective suppression of discrimination, but also that extreme caution is necessary for using any type of data while respecting the right to privacy, especially when it concerns children who enjoy special legal protection.
The conference was opened by the Swedish Ombudsman Lars Arrhenius, and the European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, made an address via a video message.
