Children should be taught tolerance and respect for diversity

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Janković participated at the OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting, which was organized in Warsaw. Addressing participants and participants in the “Tolerance and Non-discrimination” session, the Commissioner highlighted the impact of the education system, which plays an important role in shaping the attitudes of children and young people.

The sensitization and preparation of children to build a just and tolerant society in which everyone, regardless of differences, has the right to a dignified life, is one of the highly positioned goals of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, the Commissioner emphasized, presenting a series of activities undertaken by the institution in order to prevent discrimination, promote equality, as well as education of children and youth, among which are “Youth Panel – Discrimination Busters”, moot court in the area of ​​non-discrimination for students of all Law Schools throughout Serbia, a prize competition themed: cross-generation solidarity, open for students from all schools in Serbia to apply, etc.

Commissioner Janković also pointed out that the institution’s activities include children and young people from pre-school age to college, and concluded that it is of the utmost importance that new generations start to learn how to respect diversity and build a tolerant society.
